I picked this photo because of the story behind it. It caught my eye because of the astronaut. This photo was taken in space. It is a photo of an American astronaut on the surface of the moon. I learned this was a photo of buzz aldrin who was on the Apollo 11 mission. It was also taken by Apollo 11 commander, Neil Armstrong. He is a well-known astronaut. He was born on August 5, 1930. I picked this photo because it had historical importance. It caught my eye because it looked old fashioned. In the photo, a sailor is kissing a nurse in a city square. This was taken the day the world war 2 ended. I learned it was taken the day Japan surrendered to the U.S. I also learned it was published in Times Magazine and that was how it got to be so famous. I picked this photo because it is interesting that they are dangerously sitting on the skyscraper. It caught my eye because it is not something you usually see people doing. In the photo, 11 men are sitting on the beam of a building under construction. I learned it was a beam of the Rockefeller center in manhattan. I also learned it was taken in 1932. People aren't 100% clear on who took it but it is now thought to be taken by Charles C. Ebbets. He lived August 18, 1905-July 14. 1978. he was born in Gadsen Alabama. He left school in 10th grade. I picked this photo because it was sad and has a good story behind it. It caught my eye because it has emotion behind it. In the picture, a starving child is curled up on the ground while a bird watches it. I learned the little girl was on her way to a feeding center and collapsed. I also learned it was taken in Sudan. It was photographed by Kevin Carter. He lived September 30, 1960-July 24, 1994. He was born in Johannesburg South Africa. He attended Catholic Boarding School but later dropped out. I picked this photo because war and violence are relevant topics today and they have been in the last 100 years. It caught my eye because the mushroom cloud the bomb made was interesting. In the picture, it shows the explosion cloud of a bomb. I learned that it was the first attack by an atomic bomb. I also learned it was dropped on Hiroshima during World War 2. It was photographed by Charles Levy. He went on a plane and circled the cloud to get the perfect photo.
